Juniors – Dominance of Košice Juniors, they are taking home 5 titles from Snina!
Košice, Snina (February 4-5, 2017) The first weekend of February this year belonged to the highest competition for junior wrestlers. On Saturday, the traditional style was wrestled, and Sunday afternoon belonged to the freestyle wrestlers. Our base focuses on freestyle, so our successes and the three titles we won were in the aforementioned style. Róbert Szatmári, Tomáš Krupjak, and the defending champion Matúš Sýkora were responsible for them.
On the first day, only four competitors traveled with coach M. Jedlička and club secretary M. Miček. Our wrestlers did not fare very well, and in the 84 kg weight category, Hany Al-Kubati was eliminated in the first round, and Ľuboš Kundrát did not reach the bronze medal, losing in the fight for bronze to D. Pecha from Bratislava and thus taking 4th place. In the 96 kg weight category, Tomáš Krupjak competed, who managed to defeat V. Oross and took 2nd place, as he met the representative in the Greco-Roman style, L. Papp, in the final. In the heaviest weight category, Matúš Sýkora competed, who was unable to get to the final against N. Marczinek, to whom he lost by fall. He also won 3rd place by fall, this time with a victory.
In the club placement, we finished in 5th place with 23 points.
On the second day of competition, three more freestyle wrestlers joined the four competitors. The boys did better, perhaps because the president of the ZK Košice club, Ján Tokár, coach Štefan Csorba, came to encourage them, and the club's sports director, Jozef Lohyňa, also appeared in the audience.
In the 66 kg weight category, newcomer to wrestling P. Valyik had his debut. He lost in the first round and subsequently did not make it to the repechage. In the 74 kg weight category, K. Kondáš returned to the wrestling mats after a long break. In his first match, he was no match for the wrestler from Olymp, G. Akchsarbek, and then he was no match for the competitor in the repechage and was eliminated from the tournament. The boys lacked training, and we hope they will continue to participate in the training process. In the 84 kg weight category, Ľuboš Kundrát did not perform as expected. He lost in the quarterfinals and then in the repechage, when he was already winning 10:0, but his opponent defeated him with a pinfall victory, and he said goodbye to the tournament. In the same weight category, Róbert Szatmári, after three victories, managed to fight his way to the final, where he defeated D. Pecha from Bratislava 12:2 and won the title of Slovak Champion. In the 96 kg weight category, Tomáš Krupjak competed. He managed to defeat his only opponent for the title, V. Oross from Bratislava, by fall and also won the title of Slovak Champion. In the heaviest weight category of 120 kg, Matúš Sýkora defended his last year's title. He fought his way to the final with two victories by fall and then defeated M. Regula from Snina by fall, thus defending the title of Slovak Champion. msy
