Košice (12.03.2016) The Social Pavilion became the venue for the Slovak championships for younger pupils and all categories of girls in freestyle on Saturday. Over 140 wrestlers from 20 clubs fought for the best possible placements. The most successful were our five girls, who could celebrate winning gold in the team evaluation. This event, also listed in the calendar of the European City of Sport 2016, was attended by the president of ZK Košice 1904, J. Tokár Jr., and the club's sports director, J. Lohyňa. We were also honored by the visit of the president of U.S. Steel and also a former wrestler, Scott D. BUCKISO. The general secretary of the Slovak Wrestling Federation, Elenka Valentová, came to support the young hopefuls.
The training group led by Dominika Kollárová did well, winning three gold medals thanks in part to her. The older pupils and the 62 kg weight category were not sufficiently filled, so Sofia Jackaninová won 1st place without a title. Among the cadets, Patrícia Peťáková dominated in her weight category and won the title of Slovak Champion. The junior duo Dominika Kollárová won first place, and in the same 55 kg weight category, Michaela Janitorová took third place. The only Košice senior, Andrea Šambronská, in the 63 kg weight category, where there were no women represented, wrestled a friendly winning match against a wrestler from a heavier category from Modrany.
The younger pupils had more difficult fights for the top spots. Nevertheless, from among 11 competitors, Filip Titka managed to win bronze in the 48 kg weight category. Róbert Kubín was also close to winning a bronze medal, but ultimately finished in fifth place. The newcomers will have to wait for their successes. Coaches M. Jedlička and M. Sciranka were satisfied with their pupils and their performances, given that it is a relatively young training group. ah

From the overall team evaluation, it is clear that we still have a lot of work to do with the youth, and the coaches a lot of strength and energy.
