None of the three Slovak freestyle wrestlers overcame the initial obstacle at the European Wrestling Championships in Bucharest.
After Daniel Chomanič's loss in the qualification round up to 65 kg on Monday, Jakub Sýkora (-74 kg) and also Slovakia's biggest medal hope, Boris Makojev (-86 kg), were unsuccessful on Tuesday.
Sýkora started in the round of 16, but he was no match for Vasyl Mykhailov; the Ukrainian won by technical superiority 12:1. The Slovak representative did not get a second chance in the repechage, as Mykhailov was eliminated in the semifinals.
The 2017 World Championship silver medalist, Makojev, faced a very tough opponent in the qualification round. He eventually lost to the Georgian Sandro Aminashvili 1:4 on points and also said goodbye to the championship.
