02. 08. 2014

Košice, Dabrowa Gornicza (August 2-3, 2014) One of the last tournaments before the world championships is annually the Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial in Poland. This year, the tournament was hosted by the city of Dabrowa Gornicza near Katowice. Our national team members, led by head coach Mgr. Peter Hirjak, also used it as a test before the upcoming World Championships. Two Košice natives also participated in the tournament – Jakub Sciranka in the 74kg weight category and Michael Bodnár in the 86kg weight category.

On the first day of the tournament, the younger of our representatives, Jakub Sciranka, competed. In the first round, he faced Iranian wrestler Reza AFZALLPAEMAMI, to whom he lost 0:10. The Iranian won in further fights and pulled Jakub into the repechage. In the repechage, Jakub defeated the representative of Afghanistan, Hamed ORUZGANI, 14:4 and fought his way to the third-place match. In the fight for bronze, Jakub lost to the Belarusian wrestler Rasul TIKHAEV by fall. Jakub finished in 5th place out of 13 competitors overall.

On the second day, the older of the pair, Michael Bodnár, joined the fight. Michael's weight category had the most competitors – 24. Mišo met the Pole Dawid PEPLOWSKI in the preliminary round, to whom he narrowly lost 4:6 on points, although he had already held the Pole in a dangerous position in the first half. Michael was eliminated from further fights and finished in 16th place overall.

Congratulations!
