Košice, Grodno (BLR) (May 22-24, 2015) A small but successful trip, that's how one could describe the past weekend for Maťo Sciranka, who participated with his brother in an international tournament in Grodno, Belarus. On Thursday, they traveled with their former (officially still a member of ZK Košice 1904, author's note) training sparring partner Dan Pálinkás and his personal coach Radion Kertanti. The tournament was held in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the fight against fascism and especially in memory of the "Hero of the Soviet Union G.M. Karbyshev." Over one hundred male and female wrestlers from Estonia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Israel, Ukraine, and Slovakia traveled to Grodno; of course, there was a large number of competitors from the host country.
In the 74kg weight category, the younger of the brothers, JAKUB SCIRANKA, competed. In the first round, he dealt with the Belarusian I. Kušelevič 11:0, and in the next round, he met the aforementioned Dan Palinkás (the eventual winner of the tournament), to whom he lost 1:6. In the fight for bronze, Jakub lost in a close fight to the Kazakh B. Kurmanbekov 3:3, leaving him with only 5th place in a competition of 11 wrestlers. The older of the brotherly duo, MARTIN SCIRANKA, can boast a more successful weekend, winning a gold medal in a competition of 16 wrestlers! Martin went through the elimination rounds to the final without a hitch. In the first round, the Kazakh E. Asadov forfeited due to injury, and in the following fights, he dominated the Belarusian wrestlers, whom he defeated by technical superiority. In the final, he also met the Belarusian R. Titov, whom he defeated 4:1 on points in the fight for gold and the title of "Master of Sport" (recognized in Belarus, author's note). The winner himself briefly commented on the tournament: "The tournament was of a good level and I had high-quality and challenging matches, and I am satisfied with my performance. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsors who enable me and my brother to travel to such tournaments by financially helping us with travel costs and visas."
In conclusion, we would like to say that it is a shame that for various reasons, more of our wrestlers could not participate in this tournament. In such a competition, they would certainly have gained a lot of valuable experience for their further preparation. js
CONGRATULATIONS!
