Just last year, when he reached the respectable age of 90 on October 16, all his acquaintances admired his vitality.
KOŠICE.
The delegation of the Košice Olympic Club, which came to shake his hand, wish him all the best, and reminisce together about his rich wrestling past, was no exception.
This was associated with the name of the Lučenec native Ladislav Mihók, who was a recognized, highly respected personality and a legend of this Olympic sport.
After arriving in Košice in 1934, he started in the KSC club, where he quickly progressed. In 1946, he joined Lokomotíva, known at the beginning as ŠK Železničiari, where he prepared for the harvest of many successes he achieved on the domestic top scene.
In 1950, he obtained a II class referee qualification, but he was still an active wrestler. In addition to the highest domestic qualification, he went even further, as he even became a FILA class E referee, which guaranteed him participation in the Olympics.
He was on the Olympic mat in 1968 in Mexico, and also at the next Olympics in Munich, where he also earned a spot for Montreal four years later.
He was also at five World Championships, six European Championships, at a whole series of international tournaments at home and abroad, so all this speaks of his unusual abilities.
He received a diploma of honor with a gold badge from the International Federation FILA for his years of successful work, he also received an award for special merits in promoting the ideas of wrestling in the world and other recognitions on the domestic and international field. He was one of the founders of the Olympic Club in Košice.
All fans of the Olympic club were happy that a person of such rank lived in their society, who made Košice sports famous like few others. Unfortunately, these words already belong to the past, because the highly respected gentleman left the great sports family forever the day before yesterday in the early morning and will only watch his favorite Olympics in London from above.
In this sad moment, we have no choice but to thank him for everything he did for sport, as its great admirer.
Honor to his memory!
The last farewell to Ladislav Mihók will be on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Košice public cemetery.
