Košice, Jelgava (LAT) (24-28.9.2015) An international tournament for our pupils and cadets was held in the Latvian city of Jelgava, near the capital Riga. The wrestlers of our club, accompanied by coach Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička and Mr. Zavacký, embarked on the long journey. The tournament was strongly attended by all surrounding countries, where our representatives had good competition.
Jozef Mesiarkin in the 69kg weight category was the most successful at the tournament, winning a silver medal in a competition of 16 wrestlers. The loss came only in the final, where he was no match for a local competitor who was beyond his strength. Our cadette Nina Kollárová also did well, finishing third. In a competition of 5 wrestlers, she managed to win two matches and lose two. Samuel Koršňák in the 76kg weight category was also close to a medal, but in the last seconds against a Lithuanian representative, he lost the match for bronze and placed 5th out of 12 competitors.
In the pupils' category, we had double representation in the 44kg weight category with Jakub Zavacký 19th place/22, who was no match for a local competitor 0:5, and Filip Titka 7th place, who defeated a Latvian in the first match but was no match for a Russian in the second round 0:5.
The coach told us: "It was a difficult journey, but it was worth it!"
