We can boldly state that few sports disciplines in Košice have such a rich and successful tradition as wrestling. Wrestling officially began in Košice as early as 1904. This year is also considered the birth of organized wrestling in Slovakia.
Our wrestling club was founded in 1946, when wrestling enthusiasts, gathered around the later wrestling elder Ladislav Nagy, decided to establish their wrestling family, and in 1946, immediately after the establishment of the Physical Education Unit Lokomotíva Košice, they joined its ranks as the wrestling section under the name ZK LOKOMOTÍVA KOŠICE.
Since 2008, we have transformed into an independent civic association called Wrestling Club Košice 1904 o.z., continuing our sports activities as the legal successor of ZK Lokomotíva Košice.

During its existence, our club has achieved many fine successes. We have trained a respectable number of Czechoslovak and Slovak champions, as well as representatives of the former Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Slovak Republic.
Our most notable international achievement to date is the bronze medal won by Mikuláš Athanasov at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.
Our club won the title of Federal Champion of Czechoslovakia in the senior category a total of 10 times. After the country's division, we have won several Slovak championship titles, the most recent being in 2024.

The number of individual Czechoslovak championship titles across all age categories stands at 217 titles, and after the establishment of the Slovak Republic, the number of individual Slovak championship titles has already exceeded 600.
In 2008, we participated in organizing the European Junior Championships, where our competitor Dan Pálinkaš won a silver medal in the 74 kg weight category at this European championship.
Currently, we remain one of the most successful wrestling clubs in Slovakia.
In 2020, our club was excellently represented internationally by Jakub Sýkora, who placed ninth at the European Championships in Rome, and Boris Makoev, who has been with our club since 2018 and won a bronze medal. Makoev also successfully represented us at the World Championships in Belgrade in 2022, winning a bronze medal, and in 2024 he won a silver medal at the European Championships in Bucharest.
We consider Boris Makoev's qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, held in 2021 due to the pandemic, an extraordinary success. Boris thus successfully followed in the footsteps of our successful Olympian Miroslav Luberd, fulfilling our dream after more than thirty years of having our competitor at the Olympic Games.
Building on these significant achievements of our wrestlers, in 2025 Anton Vyhivskiy won a bronze medal at the European Under-20 Championships.
We conduct our training process in a specialized wrestling hall in the Social Pavilion, where we have excellent conditions. We also have access to the facilities of the newly established Combat Sports Center in Furča, set in a beautiful natural environment.

We believe that in cooperation with the city of Košice, the Košice Self-Governing Region, and SZZ, we will be able to continue progressing and create suitable conditions for the growth of more successful wrestlers representing our wrestling club, the city of Košice, and Slovakia.
