Interesting Facts

  • The best Slovak wrestler of the post-war period, competed in one of the most demanding weight categories.
  • Based on the decision of the Central Section, the wrestling national team did not travel to the 1956 Melbourne Olympics because there was allegedly no guarantee of success adequate to the expenses. In reaction, he resigned from the national team.
  • Josef Růžička, a teammate from the national team, said about him: "He was a fox, a very skillful wrestler with great calmness and awareness of the situation."
  • After his death, the M. Athanasov Memorial began to be organized in Košice.
  • He had the nickname "Muco".
