The Košice wrestlers have started their title defense with 4 first-place finishes, creating a promising lead for the next round. Coaches Mgr. Juraj Dancák (newly elected junior national team coach) and Marek Sciranka (assistant coach) took our juniors to Dunajská Streda for the first round of the Slovak Junior League (SDL). This year, the Vihorlat Snina team did not register for the competition, but in its place, a young team from Dunajplavba Bratislava, which has re-entered the SDL after a long break, has stepped up. However, our boys gave neither them nor the competition a chance and won the first round with a lead of over 20 points over Dunajplavba.
The team leaders included national team members Jakub Sýkora, Ľuboš Kundrát, Dominik Husár, and Samuel Koršňák, who took first place in their respective weight categories. Jakub Sýkora dominated his weight class and did not allow his opponents to score a single point. Cadet national team member Samuel Koršňák also dealt with all his opponents. Our other boys also did well on Žitný ostrov, as all participants placed in the scoring positions, and what's more, they all finished in the top three. However, it is also necessary to mention the low participation and level of this competition, which is declining year by year. It is alarming that in 10 weight categories, fewer than 40 wrestlers competed, and the competition lasted less than 2 hours. js
Congratulations to the boys and we wish them much strength for the next rounds of the competition!
