Juniors - Two Titles for Košice from the Slovak Freestyle Championships

10. 03. 2018

Košice, Snina (10.03.2018) Vihorlat Snina, as the organizing club, welcomed all junior freestyle wrestlers. We must note that the number of competitors is decreasing year by year. A total of 46 starters is an unmistakable sign that the popularity of our sport is declining. This championship was declared by the junior national team coach, Erik Cap, before the start of the event as the first to win a spot for this year's World Championships, which will be held on home soil in Trnava. The Košice team won two right away, thanks to J. Mesiarkin and S. Mochnáč. The club president, Ján Tokár Jr., and Martin Želinský also came to support the boys. Marcel Miček and coach Miroslav Jedlička also traveled to Snina.

Coach Štefan Csorba evaluated the boys' performances positively, although there were matches that our boys lost themselves, underestimating the last seconds of the match, as was the case in the match in the low weight of Samo Bučko against Peter Ducho from Bánovce. The competitor from Rimavská Sobota, Pavol Rapčan, who became the winner of the weight class, was also beyond his strength. Makar Vihyvskyi in the 70 kg weight category also won bronze. He made mistakes in his matches, but it should be noted that the boys are still cadets by age and are gaining experience. The same goes for his colleague from the Sports Gymnasium, Patrik Tomlein, who placed fourth in the 86 kg weight category. The experienced junior Jozef Mesiarkin already dominated there, not hesitating for a second and giving his opponents a "technical" in all four matches. In the 79 kg weight category, Hany Al Kubati struggled a bit and eventually won bronze. In the 97 kg category, another student of ŠG, Adam Fedorco, competed. He failed to win a match and finished third among the three starters. The result is mainly a reflection of the approach to training and self-discipline. A graduate of ZK Košice, Samuel Mochnáč, is returning to the competition mats after a long break. It worked out excellently for him in Snina, and we believe that he will do well in his new category of 125 kg. Despite the absence of wrestlers Lukáš Neupauer, Samuel Koršňák, and for health reasons Viktor Váňa and Tomáš Krupjak, we as a team won the silver position in the overall evaluation. ah
