Juniors – Dominance of Košice Juniors, they are taking home 5 titles from Snina!
Košice, Snina (20.-21.2.2016) The Košice team traveled to the Slovak Republic Championships in Snina with 8 boys, led by a coaching trio of J. Lohyňa, M. Sciranka, and Š. Csorba, with referees M. Gardoš, I. Vymazal, and A. Šambronská. The goal was clear, to win at least 4 titles, while we had only 5 weight categories filled. The team leaders were representatives Gabi Tysz and Kubo Sýkora. Another contender for the title was the defender from the last two years, Ľubo Kundrát. Among our other hot prospects were Jozef Mesiarkin and Róbert Szatmári in the "74-kg" category. Roman Peťák and Tomáš Krupjak tried to thwart Ľubo's path to defending the title in the 84 kg weight category, and Matúš Sýkora was aiming for the title in the super heavyweight category.
The favorites did not disappoint; Jakub Sýkora in the 66 kg weight category, with 8 competitors, found no stronger opponent and easily went through the tournament without losing a point. Gabriel Tysz, like his younger colleague, dispatched his opponents with technical superiority and added another title in the "96-kg." Ľuboš Kundrát did not have as easy a time defending his title as he would have imagined; in the semifinals, he was troubled by the young Bratislavan V. Oross, whom he eventually defeated by fall after a balanced match. In the final, Ľubo measured his strength against his teammate Roman Peťák, whom he clearly defeated 10:0. The defeated finalist, Roman, had measured his strength in previous matches with another teammate, Tomáš Krupjak, whom he defeated 4:3 in a close fight in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, however, he won clearly by fall against Hrabovčin from Snina. Tomáš Krupjak was left with the fight for bronze, in which he lost to Oross by fall. In the 74 kg weight category, we had double representation, and to our joy, both of our representatives met in the final. The older of the two, Róbert Szatmári, dealt with Boďo from Bánovce and Benda from Rimavská Sobota by technical superiority on his way to the final. Jozef Mesiarkin similarly dealt with Horváth from Modrany, Leňo from Snina, and in the semifinals with Drmola from Trenčín. In a balanced fight for the title of Slovak Champion, the younger of the two, Jozef Mesiarkin, eventually won. In the weight category, Matúš Sýkora celebrated his first title of Slovak Champion, having dealt with all his opponents by fall or technical superiority.
To the joy of the club president, J. Tokár Jr., who personally came to Snina to encourage the boys, that was not all; Košice won the club evaluation ahead of the home team Snina and Nitra. js
Sunday, February 21, 2016, was a test of their wrestling skills in the classic style. Róbert Szatmári and Gabriel Tysz were missing from the Košice team, but despite this, we managed to win the team evaluation again!
Although the southern part of Slovakia predominantly dominates in the Greco-Roman style, our "freestyle wrestlers" did not let themselves be shamed and made the path to the title quite difficult for the "Greco-Roman wrestlers." Jakub Sýkora added another title when he won in the final by technical superiority against a representative from Dunajská Streda, A. Gaál, in the 66 kg weight category. In the 74 kg, Jozef Mesiarkin fought, but right in the preliminary round, he ran into the eventual winner of the weight class, L. Drmola, whom he had defeated in freestyle. This time, he got his revenge in the classic style, which the Dukla Trenčín graduate specializes in. He won in the repechage, but in the next round, he lost due to injury and also forfeited the match for 5th place. Ľuboš Kundrát was stopped in the fight for gold by a loss to V. Oross from Dunajplavba in the 84 kg category. After a win in the repechage, he met his club colleague Roman Peťák and won in the fight for bronze. Roman thus took the unpopular 4th place. Tomáš Krupjak in the same weight class did not compete in the match for 5th place due to a knee injury. In the 96 kg weight category, Matúš Sýkora wrestled, whose loss to the eventual winner of the weight class, J. Papp, allowed him to fight "only" for bronze. Due to an opponent's injury, he eventually took third place.
By the sum of the points, despite several losses, the boys managed to win 1st place in the team evaluation, similarly to how it was in freestyle, ahead of the home team Snina and Nitra. ah
Congratulations to the boys for the beautiful representation of our club!
