On November 18 and 19, the International Tournament for the Cup of Olympic Hopes was held in Košice. On our home mats, we welcomed wrestlers from Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, and of course, clubs from the Slovak Republic. From the home team of Košice, the following competed in the junior category:
In the 74 kg weight category, Jozef Mesiarkin, who won his first match but lost the second to a Latvian and then fought for 3rd place, which he won after a victory over a representative from Hungary.
In the 84 kg weight category, Samuel Koršňák competed, who unfortunately was eliminated from the tournament after two losses.
In the highest weight category, Matúš Sýkora competed, wrestling against a Romanian in a best-of-three series. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful, losing twice by technical superiority.
In the cadet category, in the 46 kg weight category, Samuel Bučko competed, placing 3rd.
In the 50 kg weight category, Jakub Závacký fought, losing two matches and saying goodbye to the tournament.
In the 58 kg weight category, Roland Kapitančík had to withdraw from the tournament after his first win due to a knee injury in the second match.
In the 63 kg weight category, Mikuláš Lešo gained experience, also losing two matches.
In the 76 kg weight category, our two wrestlers, Matej Závacký and Patrik Tomlein, competed, both finishing in 5th place.
In the 85 kg weight category, after 4 losses, Matej Beneš finished in last place, 5th. Matej still needs to work on his training.
And the only first place from our boys was won by Viktor Váňa in the 100 kg weight category. He defeated all his opponents and won a Slovak victory for our club at a high-quality tournament. msy
