Cadets - Slovak Championships - Three Titles from Bratislava!

01. 04. 2016

Bratislava (01-03.4.2016) Last weekend, the Slovak Republic Championships for wrestlers under 17 were held in Bratislava, at the Horárska street hall of the Dunajplavba wrestling club. The tournament began on Saturday at noon with Greco-Roman style matches and continued on Sunday with freestyle matches. 4 competitors traveled to Bratislava with coach Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička, who wrestled in both freestyle and Greco-Roman style. Jozef Mesiarkin had a successful weekend, dominating both days and taking home two Slovak Championship titles; Matej Závacký added one title to the collection.

The Saturday Greco-Roman style fights did not go well right from the start for two of our competitors. In the 50 kg weight category, Peter Kundra lost to Csicsó from Modrany, and in the "69-kg," Matej Závacký was no match for Nagy from Šamorín, losing to him 14:6. The duo of Mesiarkin and Zummer in the 76 kg weight category fared better. M. Zummer dealt with the Bratislava natives Lažo and Črijepko. In the semifinals, Milan was no match for another Bratislava native, Orbán, and in the fight for 3rd place, he lost by fall to Bočák from Bánovce. Jozef Mesiarkin went through the competition easily; in the first round, he dealt with the local Štrba, later with Malík from Snina, and in the semifinals with the already mentioned Bočák. In the final, Jojo dealt with the conqueror of Milan Zummer, V. Orbán from Dunajplavba, and became the Slovak Champion.

On Sunday, the boys competed in the identical weight categories. In the 50 kg weight category, Peter Kundra, after losing his first match to the eventual winner of the category, Lakatos from Kolárovo, got injured in the match with Opálka and had to withdraw from the competition. In the 69 kg category, Matej Závacký made up for his unsuccessful Saturday. In the first round, Maťo dealt with Csollei from Gabčíkovo by technical superiority and in the semifinals with Mikuš from Nitra by fall. In the final, Matej met Karas from Bánovce, whom he defeated by technical superiority and won the title of Slovak Champion. In the "76-kg," Milan Zummer said goodbye to the competition after the first match, when he was no match for Orbán from Bratislava. However, that was not the case for Jozef Mesiarkin, who, as the current Slovak Junior Champion, was the biggest favorite for the title in this category. Jojo first dealt with Konyári from Marcelová and later with the conqueror of Milan Zummer, Orbán. In the final, he easily defeated his former teammate from Bánovce, Bočák, and won another title for his collection.

Congratulations to our mini-delegation, which is bringing home 3 titles. Unlike the numerous titles the club brought home from the Junior Slovak Championships, this is a small number, and it is clear that a generation gap is forming, which will be very difficult to fill. js
