U23 Category - Unfortunately, No Victories for Slovaks

23. 03. 2015

Košice, Walbrzych (POL) (23-29.3.2015) The Poles were the first to organize the approved U23 European Championships in the town of Walbrzych. Four Slovak and also Košice representatives Jakub Sýkora 61 kg, Jakub Sciranka 74 kg, Michael Bodnár 86 kg, and Gabriel Tysz 97 kg traveled to the championship under the guidance of the club's sports director Jozef Lohyňa, who represented the national coach Miroslav Jedlička. The president of our club, JUDr. Ján Tokár Jr., also went to support the boys, and at the same time wanted to get information about organizing the championships in Košice in 2017.

On the first day, Jakub SCIRANKA fought in the 74 kg weight class. Jakub had a favorable draw against the Macedonian B. VEJSELI, whom he surprised at the beginning of the match with a takedown to his back during an attack on his legs and held his opponent on his shoulders, which he did not capitalize on. Then the match proceeded under the opponent's control, where after two attacks on his legs and a rolling cradle, he increased his victory and defeated Jakub 4:13. In the 97 kg weight class, Gabriel TYSZ met the Bulgarian K. Korolev in the first round, with whom he had an even match. In one attack, Gabi scored only one point instead of two, which was one of the moments that also cost him the victory. "Despite the loss, Gabi pleased with the potential he has and wrestled the best match of all our wrestlers," added coach Lohyňa. Their opponents lost in the next round and the boys were eliminated from the competition.

On the second freestyle day, Jakub SÝKORA wrestled in the 61kg weight class. In the quarterfinals, he met the strong Azerbaijani A. GVARZATILOV, who gave him no chance with two actions and decided the match by technical superiority in under a minute, defeating Jakub 0:10. In the 86 kg weight class, Michael BODNÁR drew the home Pole D. Peplowski, who made a two-point attack in the first period and maintained the score until the end. Mišo had a total of 5 chances and did not use a single one to bring the match to a victory. "He lacked handwork and off-balancing, which is a shame, because he had a good draw and an opportunity for a good placement, which he did not take advantage of," said coach Lohyňa. Their opponents lost in further fights and ours could say goodbye to their participation in this year's U23 European Championships. The boys have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to win on international mats. mb
