Košice, Ruse (BUL) (7-9.4.2017) This year's prestigious Dan Kolov – Nikola Petrov tournament was not held as usual in Sofia, but in the city of Ruse, where the U23 European Championships were held last year.
The tournament announced its strong participation from the very beginning, with the organizers having over 400 participants in freestyle and Greco-Roman styles from 40 countries around the world registered. The announcements were confirmed, as there were an average of 30 wrestlers per weight class in freestyle. On the first day, our Košice wrestler Michael BODNÁR also competed in the 97 kg weight category, where the draw assigned him the Greek T. Xenidis in the first round. The match started quite well, with Mišo's first attack on the legs being successful. Subsequently, the Greek managed the same, who used it in the parterre and scored further points with a "crossface" hold. After that, it was harder for Mišo to make up the deficit and the overall match ended 5:12. In the next round, the Greek lost to the Macedonian representative and Mišo was eliminated from further fights, finishing in 20th place overall.
Slovak representatives Michal Duba up to 74 kg also competed at this tournament; he lost to the Georgian D. Tlashadze 1:9. Furthermore, in the 86 kg category, René Matejov competed; he defeated the Tunisian S. Mohamed 16:5 in the first round, and in the second round, he was no match for the Kazakh A. Davlumbayev 7:14. Boris Makoev also wrestled in this weight class. He won two matches against the Frenchman S. Alekma 9:6 and the Hungarian I. Vereb 4:2, but in the quarterfinals, the Korean G. Kim was beyond his strength 0:11.
It was a great experience for Mišo, even though he only wrestled one match, but he had the opportunity to see many other high-quality matches and knows what he needs to work on further. mb
