Seniors - 1st Annual Jozef Svoboda Memorial

15. 05. 2015

Košice, Bratislava (May 15-16, 2015) Dunajplavba Bratislava, as the organizer of the junior "Danube Cup" tournament, enriched the competition calendar with a senior tournament named after the former president of the SZZ, the "Jozef Svoboda Memorial." Adam Mocko, as the new president of ZK Dunajplavba Bratislava, took on the task very responsibly and attracted almost 70 wrestlers to the capital. In addition to Slovak freestyle wrestlers, wrestlers from Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Italy, Romania, Belarus, Austria, Germany, and Finland also attended, which speaks to the high quality of the tournament. Košice juniors and young seniors also participated in the fights, under the leadership of sports director Jozef Lohyňa and coach Mgr. Juraj Dancák.

Other coaches also came to support the boys: Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička, Marek Sciranka, and Štefan Csorba. The tournament was of a high level, especially in terms of the quality of the wrestlers. It was fought in a two-loss system, which ensured more matches.

In the lightest category, up to 57 kg, Peter PÁSTOR competed, who placed 5th (8). In the first match, he won against a wrestler from AC NR, but then he was no match for the winner of the weight class from POL and subsequently not for the representative of ROU either. In the 61 kg weight class, Jakub SÝKORA, after two victorious matches and two losses, placed 4th (5). In the 74 kg weight class, we had three competitors: Jakub SCIRANKA, who was no match for a representative from AUT in the first round and for his former club colleague Dan Pálinkás in the second. Matej DEÁK lost to a UKR and also to Dan Pálinkás, and was eliminated after two losses. The third in the same category was Ľuboš KUNDRÁT, who lost in the first match to a Slovak representative. In the B group, he managed to defeat a wrestler from Snina. After his own mistakes, he lost to a Finn and was also eliminated. The 86 kg weight class also had triple representation. Matúš SÝKORA was unsuccessful in the fight against Košice native Martin Sciranka and a local competitor from DBA. Martin SCIRANKA defeated the aforementioned M. Sýkora and a local from Dunajplavba in the first round, but then lost to a finalist from ROU and after a loss to a POL, he said goodbye to the tournament and thus placed 5th (11). The third in this weight class, Michael BODNÁR, defeated a POL in the first match, lost in the semifinals to the winner of the weight class from HUN, and also defeated a Bratislava native in the B group. In the fight for bronze, he did not repeat his victory over the POL from the first round, whom he also met in the fight for bronze, and finished in 4th place (11). In the 97 kg weight class, a newcomer from the club, Jozef Takács, competed, who was eliminated from the tournament after two losses, thus gaining valuable experience on the wrestling mat. mb
