Seniors - J. Sýkora confirmed his role as favorite and won the championship title

08. 11. 2014

Prievidza (November 8, 2014) In Prievidza, the presidium of the SZZ met before the championship. One of the points on the agenda was the dismissal of the coach of the senior freestyle national team, Mgr. P. Hirjak, as the Slovak Wrestling Federation expressed dissatisfaction with his work to date, and a new men's coach is to be appointed by the end of 2014. Who will take over the senior wrestlers is not yet known.

Slovak senior wrestling has its season finale behind it. 15 wrestlers from our club fought for the title of Slovak champion under the guidance of coach Mgr. Juraj Dancák and his assistant Marek Sciranka. The president of ZK, JUDr. Ján Tokár Jr., the club's sports director Jozef Lohyňa, and the junior national team coach Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička were also present as moral support in the audience. The role of clear favorite was confirmed by Jakub Sýkora (61 kg), who was not prevented from winning the title in the final by one of the successful Lévai brothers - Zoltán. Peter Pastor made it to the final in the lowest weight category of 57 kg, where he lost by his own mistake by fall to Attila Kovács from Gabčíkovo. In the 70 kg weight category, Róbert Szatmári competed, who, thanks in part to the unfavorable decision of the referees, was no match for Michal Radnóti from Rimavská Sobota in the second round. Jakub Sciranka stood on the winner's podium in the 74 kg weight category; after losing in the semifinals to Thomas Redent, he had a chance to fight for third place, which he took advantage of. In the most populated category of 86 kg, we had as many as seven boys from the club represented: R. Peťák, Ľ. Kundrát, D. Husár, M. Sýkora, M. Sciranka, D. Palinkás, and M. Bodnár. Dán Palinkás was the most successful, winning the match for third place against his club friend Michael Bodnár, for whom this championship did not go according to his expectations, also due to an unhealed knee. In the 97 kg weight category, club colleagues Viliam Korba, Dávid Polačko, and Gabriel Tysz met. The reigning junior champion of the SR, G. Tysz, was not yet physically and technically a match for the senior national team member J. Jaloviar from Dunajplavba. After a smooth victory over V. Korba, he took home the bronze medal. D. Polačko forfeited the final match against J. Jaloviar due to injury. In the heaviest weight category of 125 kg, Jaroslav Baltovič had a "comeback," fighting for 3rd place. In the semifinals, he was technically no match for Štefan Vojčák from Dunajplavba. We did not travel to this championship with the strongest lineup, as most of the team consisted of juniors, and older and more experienced seniors such as the Dancák brothers were missing; we did not fully meet expectations. In the overall team evaluation, we finished in second place, three points behind the first-place Dunajplavba Bratislava, which demonstrated its quality by winning four titles! "We have a lot of work ahead of us, and not just on the mat. Of course, I was pleased with the way Jakub Sýkora wrestled. I believe that the others will join in, even if Slovakia didn't work out for them this time. Losses are also a benefit in growth and move us forward, even if they hurt at the moment. They open our eyes to where we have made or are making mistakes. We must not give up!". This is how the club's sports director, Jozef Lohyňa, evaluated the boys' performance.
