Košice, Snina. On November 3-4, the Slovak Championships in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling were held in Snina. Wrestlers from ZK Košice 1904 also traveled to this pinnacle event of the year. Our delegation was led by coach M. Jedlička, who traveled with eight competitors determined to win the title of Slovak champion. A trio of referees, A. Šambronská, I. Vymazal, and M. Gardoš, were also present in nearby Snina. The club president J. Tokár, secretary M. Miček, preparatory coach Š. Csorba, and other fans of our club also came to support the boys.
This year started with the Greco-Roman style, where we were most successful in the 87kg weight category, which we absolutely dominated, where we also won the title of Slovak champion, namely Martin SCIRANKA. In the final, he dealt with his younger brother Jakub SCIRANKA, who took second place, and Tomáš KRUPJAK finished third.
We also achieved success in the heavyweight category up to 130kg, where Gabriel TYSZ, after a tough fight that ended in a brawl and after the disqualification of his opponent from Šamorín, originally from Russia, Gabi advanced to the final. There he was no match for the representative T. Sóos and took home, in addition to an injury, a silver medal. In this category, our Matúš SÝKORA won bronze.
In the 82kg weight category, Hany AL-KUBATY was unsuccessful, being eliminated from the tournament after two losses.
In the team evaluation, as a freestyle club, we took a beautiful second place!
In the afternoon, the more important freestyle continued, where we managed to dominate in two weight categories. The 92kg weight category was dominated without problems by Michael BODNÁR. As in "Greco-Roman," we also dominated the 86kg weight category in freestyle, where Jozef MESIARKIN became the Slovak champion. He defeated the new champion Martin SCIRANKA. From this weight category, we also took 4th place, namely Jakub SCIRANKA, and 5th place Tomáš KRUPJAK.
We were unable to defend the heavyweight title in freestyle, as Matúš SÝKORA was no match for the Šamorín native, originally from Russia, Nogaev, in the final, and therefore went home as the vice-champion of Slovakia. In this category, Gabriel TYSZ already forfeited his matches due to an injury from the previous match in "Greco-Roman."
Hany AL-KUBATY was also unsuccessful in freestyle, when in the 77kg weight category he was no match for an opponent from Bratislava and did not continue in the fights.
In this style, we showed that we are among the best in Slovakia, with a victory in the team evaluation, which was received by coach Miroslav JEDLIČKA! mb
