Košice, Stará Ľubovňa (9.4.2016) Almost 100 young wrestlers came to Stará Ľubovňa to fight for the title of Slovak Republic Champion in freestyle. A week before the tournament, there were 16 pupils on coach M. Jedlička's roster. On Saturday before departure, the situation was completely different. Only half of them traveled with coaches Miroslav Jedlička and Martin Sciranka. The absence of many was mainly due to their health condition. For these reasons, the pupils' coach also expressed dissatisfaction with the result of the tournament itself, as we won only one title.
Mgr. M. Jedlička: "Disappointment! It is true that more competitors did not start due to illness, from whom I would have expected top placings (TITKA 47 kg, KAPITANČÍK 53 kg, LEŠO 59 kg, and TOMLEIN 73 kg) and other boys, but that does not change the fact that the competitors who did compete at the Slovak Championships (with a few exceptions) gave very weak performances. A great disappointment for me was the performance and approach to the fight for the bronze medal of Kubo Zavacký. Rusňák and Beneš, who are moreover pupils of the Sports Gymnasium, meaning they have two-phase training, also gave very weak performances. I didn't expect much from Pinko, Ondrejkovič, and Zummer, but they will also have to add a lot in training. The only ones who deserve praise are Váňa and Bartko, although with Bartko, it was more his fighting spirit and the result achieved. For me, this weak team result may be a start to changes in training and the approach to our training activities." We want to highlight the fighting spirit of Teodor Bartko for the gold medal and the title won by Viktor Váňa, who are confirming their roles as favorites in the heavyweight categories. In the final team evaluation, we missed the bronze medal by only a single point, as the ZK Modrany team finished ahead of ZK Košice 1904. Second place went to Dunajská Streda, and the winner was the ZK Marcelová club. ah
