Older Pupils - Victories for J. Sýkora and D. Husár in Ruda Śląska, Poland

28. 11. 2012

Košice (November 28, 2012) - Older pupils of the Wrestling Club (ZK) Košice, students of the Sports Gymnasium in Košice, Jakub Sýkora (up to 54 kg) and Dominik Husár (up to 85 kg) won in their respective weight categories at the international tournament of this age category, the R. Dworok Memorial in Ruda Śląska, Poland, which took place at the end of October. The eight-member delegation of our club, led by coach Marek Sciranka, returned to Košice with the cup for second place in the team evaluation. From the other Košice wrestlers, Karol Kondáš (up to 42 kg) and Róbert Szatmári (up to 58 kg), who won silver medals, and the bronze medalist Ľuboš Kundrát (up to 76 kg) also made it to the podium for the top three.

"The tournament was of a decent level. We measured our strength against the second tier of the Polish national team. I am satisfied with the overall placement of the team, Jakub Sýkora, and Dominik Husár. Jakub needs to work on his strength; his technique and wrestling mindset are at a good level, and he is a promise for the future. Dominik started at the sports school in Košice this year from Stará Ľubovňa. He is a clever boy, he needs to work on his technique, where he has major shortcomings. Robert Szatmári lost by pinfall to his long-time rival from Nitra, I. Molnár, who returned the loss from the tournament in Snina. He wrestled well, it's a shame about this match where he got caught in a headlock. I must praise Karol Kondáš, he is a very young wrestler, he held his own bravely, but in the final, he was no match for his opponent. The others wrestled at their standard and were no match for their opponents. They showed shortcomings in technique and in commitment, and made big mistakes in their matches," commented coach M. Sciranka on the results and performances of his charges.
