Traditional Jozef Svitač Memorial and the first open Slovak U23 championships

On September 28-29, 2018, the traditional 37th Jozef Svitač Memorial took place in Nitra, and on the same day, the historic first open Slovak U23 championships were held. Almost 200 competitors started at the tournament, but in the U23 category, there were only 25.

Wrestlers from Košice, who traveled under the leadership of coaches M. Jaroš and J. Jackanin, also made their mark at the tournament, with five competitors who performed as follows:
Last year's triumph from the J. Svitač Memorial was defended in the 28-kilogram category by Eduard Kukura with three victories.
His friends in the 36-kg category were less successful, where Viktor Zdravecký suffered only one loss by fall and Roman Vasilenko, who lost 8:0 on points, and both said goodbye to the tournament.
Another from the group of pupils, Samuel Beck, who was in the 68-kilogram weight category, also could not handle his opponent and, after a loss by fall, said goodbye to the tournament.
The second of the two brothers, Patrik Beck, took 2nd place. He lost by fall but then dealt with his second opponent and thus won silver.
Only one competitor traveled to the first open Slovak championships in the U23 category, namely Matúš Sýkora, who in the 125-kg category dealt with Novák from Nitra by fall, then with a representative from the Czech Republic by technical superiority, and then he dealt with another competitor from Nitra. The referees awarded Matúš as the most technical wrestler among the Slovak competitors, and he took home a prize of 50 euros. msy

We congratulate our competitors and wish them much more success!!!!!
