Wrestling
Boris Makojev, a wrestler of Ossetian nationality, was born in Chikola, where he also began his sports training. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Košice 1904 Wrestling Club and began representing Slovakia. Just a year later, he won a silver medal at the World Championships in Paris and also performed excellently at the European Championships in 2020 in Rome, where he took the bronze position.
After fulfilling one of his dreams – a successful qualification for the Olympics – he competed under the five rings in Tokyo in 2021.
He managed to at least partially atone for the disappointment of an unfinished fight for an Olympic medal in 2022, when, under the guidance of the coach of the Slovak freestyle wrestlers Erik Cap, he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Belgrade in the weight category up to 86 kg.
In 2024, although he narrowly missed a spot for the Paris Olympics, he saved the season with another valuable medal, this time silver from the European Championships in Bucharest.
