Cadets - Sýkora Seventh Again at the European Cadet Championships.

06. 06. 2014

Košice, Samokov (June 6-11, 2014) This year, the European Cadet Championships were held in the Bulgarian city of Samokov. The championships also served as a qualification for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games, which took place in Nanjing (China). Unfortunately, the criteria for qualifying for the YOG are very strict – only the finalists from selected weight classes in freestyle and Greco-Roman style advance.

Our club was represented at the championship by: Jakub Sýkora 58 kg

Ľuboš Kundrát 76 kg

Dominika Kollárová 52 kg

On the first day, Jakub Sýkora entered the fight for medals. The draw assigned him Adam LADJANSZKÝ from Hungary in the round of 16. Jakub dealt with him 11:0 and advanced to the next round, where he met Justin MUELLER from Germany. Jakub was no match for the German and lost by fall. Jakub Sýkora placed seventh overall out of 17 competitors, the same result he achieved last year in Montenegro at the ECC. On the first day of the championships, Dominik Husár also competed in the 85 kg weight category, a native of St. Ľubovňa, a student of the Košice Sports Gymnasium, on loan to our club. Dominik failed to build on his good results from international tournaments and said goodbye to the ECC in the first round, when he lost to Karol CHOLUJ of Poland on points 1:6. Dominik finished in 13th place out of 20 competitors.

On the second day, Ľuboš Kundrát joined the fight. Ľuboš could not avoid the qualification round, in which the draw assigned him the later finalist Meki SIMONIA from Georgia. The Georgian competitor demonstrated greater technical preparedness and dealt with Ľuboš 12:2. In the repechage, Ľuboš faced J. STEINFORTH from Germany, to whom he lost 11:0. Ľuboš placed 12th overall out of a total of 19 competitors.

Our only female representative at this event did not enter the fight until the fourth day. Dominika Kollárová met an opponent from Russia, Alina KAZYMOVA, in the first round, to whom she lost by fall. Unfortunately, the Russian competitor did not make it to the final and Dominika was eliminated from the competition. Dominika placed 13th out of 15 competitors.

We congratulate them on their results and hope that this will motivate our cadets to achieve further nice results.
