Košice (14.02.2015) On our home turf, we proved once again that we are among the top junior freestyle wrestlers in Slovakia. Every year we witness weaker and weaker competition, and this time the flu season was added to it. Only 54 competitors from Slovak clubs listened to the Slovak anthem at the opening. Out of the nine Košice wrestlers, under the guidance of coach Mgr. Juraj Dancák, six boys took home a medal, and four of them were gold! Jakub Sýkora, Róbert Szatmári, Ľuboš Kundrát, and Gabriel Tysz. The fact that we are among the Slovak elite is confirmed by the fact that we also won the team evaluation in the junior freestyle category.
The promising wrestlers were watched over by the club's sports director, Jozef Lohyňa, and the junior national team coach, Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička, and assistant coach Štefan Csorba were also present. Jakub Sýkora confirmed his role as the favorite in the 60 kg weight category, easily defeating the Nitra wrestler Ivan Molnár. Róbert Szatmári may value his title a little more, as he was troubled by ankle pain, but in the final fight with Attila Gaál from Dunajská Streda, he gritted his teeth and managed to win. In the most populated weight category of 74 kg, Samuel Mochnáč had a bronze medal within reach, but he lost, thus not pulling his teammate Roland Vojkovský, who finished in 9th place, into further fights. One place higher finished the product of JUNO Sport Stará Ľubovňa, Samuel Koršňák, who has a transfer to our club. The 84 kg category was successful for two Košice wrestlers at once. Roman Peťák won bronze, and after a victorious final against Patrik Bári from Gabčíkovo, Ľubo Kundrát celebrated his defended title. In the 96 kg category, Gabriel Tysz had no major problems and the gold medal was a sovereign victory. Viliam Korba took home the silver. The president of the ZK Košice 1904 club, Ján Tokár Jr., who also came to encourage them, can also be satisfied with the boys' performances and added: "I see the acquisition of four championship titles from the Slovak Junior Championships as an excellent mid-term report card for both the boys and the coaches of our club. It is clear that if we want our young boys to succeed at the European Championships, a lot of 'drilling' is still needed, as Jozef Lohyňa says. For me, it is very important that whether it is Jakub Sýkora, Gabi Tysz, Robo Szatmári, or others, they work responsibly in training and that you can feel their will to achieve something." (ah)
