Juniors - The Most Successful Olympic Hope is G. Tysz!

15. 11. 2014

Košice (November 15, 2014) On this day, juniors competed on home mats at the 17th annual international tournament for the Cup of Olympic Hopes in freestyle wrestling. Strong competition from seven countries arrived in Košice: Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Lithuania. The Slovak wrestlers were probably most closely watched by the junior national team coach, Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička, from whom he will select next year's representatives. The tournament was also attended by the honorary international referee and FILA delegate, member of ZK Eugen Wágner. The chairman of the Košice Olympic Club, Miroslav Luberda, also came to support the boys. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, our long-time former coach of TJ Lokomotíva Košice, Mgr. Gabriel Juhás, received a plaque at the tournament.

The Cup of Olympic Hopes was presented by the president of ZK Košice, Ján Tokár Jr., to Gabriel Tysz in the 96 kg weight category. A good draw secured him direct advancement to Group A, where in the first match he managed to defeat the representative of Poland, Wawrzycky, and in the final, he dealt with the Hungarian Wittmann. He also deservedly received the award for the best Slovak wrestler from the hands of the club's sports director, Jozef Lohyňa. Gabriel was very happy with the victory and added: "I dedicate the medal to my wrestling friend Maroš, and I am glad that it could be gold." Among the successful were also Jakub Sýkora, 60 kg weight, and Dominik Husár, 84 kg weight, both with three victories and one loss, stood on the third step of the podium. The performance of Ľuboš Kundrát in the 74 kg weight category was less successful; after two wins and two losses, he finished in a nice 5th place. The other Košice wrestlers: Roland Vojkovský, Maxim Štec, Samuel Mochnáč, Tomáš Krupjak, Roman Peťák, Matúš Sýkora, Viliam Korba, and Samuel Adam did not fare very well, being eliminated from the competition in the face of strong opposition. We want to thank all participants for their cooperation, help, and support in organizing this exceptional tournament with a long tradition.
