Cadets and Women's Divisions - Slovak Freestyle Championships

06. 05. 2017

Košice, Rimavská Sobota (6.5.2017) All clubs from Slovakia gathered in Rimavská Sobota to fight for the top spots and win the title of Slovak Champion. Coach Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička understandably expressed his satisfaction with the approach and result of Jakub Zavacký. In addition to 65 cadets, all pupils, cadets, juniors, and seniors, a total of 51 female competitors, also gathered here, who also fought for championship titles.

Among the cadets, Jakub Zavacký showed the greatest fighting spirit, taking home not only the gold medal but also the title of Slovak Champion for 2017 in the 54 kg weight category. In the heavyweight category up to 100 kg, Adam Fedorco, representing ZK Košice, took second place. Newcomers among the cadets were Patrik Tomlein, who lost the fight for bronze, and Viktor Váňa, who failed to assert himself and thus finished in 6th place.

Among the women, Dominika Kollárová won the title of Slovak Champion, with second place going to her club colleague Patrícia Peťáková. Andrea Šambronská also found an opponent in the senior category, whose competitor from Nitra did not even show up in the second round. Older pupil Sofia Jackaninová and cadet Nina Kollárová had no representation in their categories and thus won 1st place without being able to fight for the title. We hope that next year the system for registration and the weights themselves for the women's divisions will change, because it is losing its level. Out of 32 weight and age categories, only in three weights were there 3 and 5 competitors. In the others, there were 2 or only one per weight. Both coaches and female wrestlers should change their approach and not be tactical, whether in the registration itself or the weigh-in. Do we want to wrestle, or do we just want points for the table? Then it looks like the girls have no one to measure their strength against at the most important tournament of the year. ah
