Košice, Subotica (August 4-9, 2015) For some, the first week of August means rest, time for vacation, but for wrestlers, it is the peak of the season. Cadets from all over Europe gathered last week in Subotica, Serbia, where they fought for the most valuable medals. Our wrestlers traveled to the north of Serbia, led by the cadet national team coach, Mgr. Erik Cap. The selection included members of our club, Jozef Mesiarkin and Samuel Koršňák.
The first of our wrestlers to take to the mats in the "Dudova suma" sports hall was Jozef Mesiarkin, a graduate of MZK Bánovce n. Bebravou. Jojo competed in the 63kg weight category against 23 wrestlers. The draw assigned Jojo the Turkish wrestler Hasan KAYA in the first round. Jojo had a promising start to the match, leading 2:0 after the first half-minute, but he couldn't do more. The Turk turned the result around and defeated Jojo 11:2. Although Jojo gave a fighting performance, he had to acknowledge his opponent's quality. A few minutes later, our second representative, Samuel Koršňák from Stará Ľubovňa, also took to his match. In the 76 kg weight category, Samo "drew" the Israeli Yuri KALASHNIKOV in the first round. Samo was unable to break through his opponent's defense, and although the score was only 1:0 after the first half, which gave a chance for a comeback, Samo did not take advantage of it, and his opponent increased his lead to 7:0 and safely controlled the match. Samo finished in 16th place in a competition of 19 wrestlers, and his teammate in 17th.
After two days, the freestyle wrestlers were replaced by the girls. Among the female wrestlers, our club had double representation; Simona Zámočníková and Nina Kollárová competed in Mikuláš Timko's national team selection.
The younger of the two representatives, Nina Kollárová, competed on the third day of the event in the 49kg weight category against 16 girls. Still an older pupil by age, she met the Pole Renata NIESCIEROVÁ in the first round, to whom she lost by fall after 45 seconds of fighting. Nina placed 14th in the overall ranking. The last representative of the "Košice" colors at the championship was Simona Zámočníková, a graduate of Nitra wrestling. Simona competed in the 52kg weight category. In the qualification round, Simona met the Romanian representative Mihaela BARBULESCUOVÁ. Simona was as unsuccessful as her club partner and also lost to her opponent by fall in the first half. Simona finished in 17th place out of 18 competitors.
Our representatives at the European Championships ended their participation in the first round. The only successful wrestler from Slovakia who managed to succeed in the first round was Daniel Chomanič (58kg) from Vihorlat Snina, who defeated the Greek Ivan VINIK on points in the first round. The unsuccessfulness of our wrestlers is also indicated by the balance of points scored and lost. In four matches, the young Košice wrestlers scored an alarming 2 points, while conceding 30 points, including two losses by fall. The pupils of the Sports Gymnasium, charges of coaches Mgr. Juraj Dancák and Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička, did not surprise with their results; their weaknesses and low self-confidence were revealed. The only bright spot can be considered the good start of Jozef Mesiarkin in the match against the Turk, in which he was unable to continue. Under the guidance of our coaches, the boys who have transferred to our club show progress in technical preparation, which they could no longer develop further in their home clubs. The long-term cooperation with the clubs ZK Juno Sport Stará Ľubovňa and ZK Slávia Snina is showing. It is necessary to point out the fact that for a long time, a graduate of our club was missing from a top event among cadet freestyle wrestlers. A gap is beginning to form in our pupil and cadet categories, and we cannot fill it with further transfers.
