Košice, Snina (28.10.2017) The Memorial of Wrestling Personalities in the city of Snina in the U23 category and also the III. round of the regional pupil league took place on one day on the Snina mats. The junior national team coach, Mgr. Erik Cap, called the brothers Matúš and Jakub Sýkora to the team.
In the 74kg weight category, Jakub won his first match, defeating a Pole narrowly 10:8, but later lost to a colleague from the national team, A. Gulaev. He did not compete in the repechage due to injury and could thus say goodbye to the tournament.
In the 125 kg category, Matúš won twice against a Ukrainian, whom he defeated by fall in both cases. Another gold metal was thus added to his collection.
Wrestlers from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, and the host country's national team, Slovakia, which won the club evaluation, participated in the tournament. msy
At the same time, the penultimate round of the pupil league was taking place, in which our preparatory and pupil wrestlers did well, with only two of the 22 children not winning a medal. It is also necessary to state the fact that the participation was quite low. Of the regional clubs participating in the league, the number of starters was reduced to 60, mainly due to illnesses. With two wrestlers per weight, the fight was for 2 victories. Many weight categories were not filled, and in several categories, the freestyle wrestlers were alone in their weight. A few friendly matches also took place. This is just a reflection of wrestling and youth work, especially in the east. The regional rounds in the west have a significantly higher number of starters. The competent authorities should think about whether it makes sense to run the league in this style, and especially with so many weight and age categories. The point of including the RPL in the SZZ calendar was mainly so that the children could wrestle as much as possible and thus test the techniques and skills gained from training. So far, this has not been very successful. Nevertheless, sincere congratulations to all the medalists. The approach to training and the competitions themselves has improved, which is evidenced by the fact that we traveled with the most numerous team. We also managed to win this round and are leading the table with a high lead of 160 points. ah
