The European Championships were evaluated by the national team coach, Marek Sciranka:
From October 21 to 24, 2016, the 17th European Police Wrestling Championships were held in Bratislava. At these championships, our 11 representatives also measured their strength against opponents from 15 European countries. Five in the classic style and six in the freestyle. They did not get lost in the results list, winning a total of 4 valuable metals and 5 scoring places. In the team evaluation, they achieved an excellent second place behind the representatives from Germany, where departmental sport is at a high professional level.
In Saturday's duels, in the classic style in the 80 kg weight category, Matúš JÚN took home the bronze medal from OHCP Sobrance, and in the 98 kg weight category, Marek UJČEK took fifth place from KR PZ Bratislava. In Sunday's fights, our representatives did better than expected.
In the freestyle 86 kg weight category, Gabriel GAŠKO won a valuable silver medal, losing in the final to a German representative. In the 70 kg category, Róbert SZATMÁRI won a bronze medal, as did Matej DEÁK in the 74 kg category. All three competitors are from KR PZ Košice. Fifth place was won in the 65 kg category by Patrik VRÁBEL KR PZ KOŠICE, in the 97 kg category by Pavol CICHOVSKÝ KR PZ TRENČÍN, and in the 125 kg category by Miroslav FIRKAĽ from KR PZ PREŠOV. We were also represented by Ondrej BLAŠKO APZ Bratislava 9th place, Balász RÁKOCZI 7th place, and Adám FOLDOS 8th place KR PZ TRNAVA. Our representatives, under the guidance of coaches Marek SCIRANKA from KR PZ KOŠICE and Kristián METON from ÚPZC Medveďov, MV SR PPZ UHCP, made the best possible advertisement for departmental sport as well as the wrestling movement in Slovakia. Let's hope that our colleagues do not rest on their laurels and will continue to devote themselves to their sport, alongside their employment, so that they can represent our country.
We congratulate our representatives and wish them good health for future successes.
