Seniors - Still Gaining Experience Among the World's Elite

14. 09. 2014

Košice, Tashkent (September 8-14, 2014) Uzbekistan welcomed the biggest stars of the wrestling world, champions of Europe, the world, Olympic champions, and honored masters of sports. 60 countries competed in freestyle at the World Championships. Slovakia also had its representation; in the 86 kg category, we were represented by Michael Bodnár, a senior for only two years, a graduate of our ZK Košice 1904. The draw assigned him the Ukrainian TSOTADZE Dzhambuliv in the first round. In the first period, Michael was losing 0:4, and he was unable to assert himself in the second either, with the Ukrainian representative winning by technical superiority. The Ukrainian subsequently lost to the winner of the weight class, the Russian Sadulaev, and thus our representative's hopes of continuing in further fights ended. "There is still a lot to work on; wrestling among seniors is something else. I am always learning, and such experiences give me a lot," Michael Bodnár told us after his unsuccessful match.

His colleague from the national team, Soslan Gagloev, in the heavyweight category up to 125 kg, fared a little better, winning his first match against the Canadian JARVIS Koery 3:1. In the second round, USA's DLAGNEV Tervel Ivaylov awaited him, and a 0:3 loss. Final 12th place/26 competitors.

Mykola Bolotnjuk, 61kg weight, who had been preparing with our Košice wrestlers for the last week, lost to an Iranian 1:3, and a wrestler from Mongolia was beyond his strength, also losing to him 1:3, finishing 14th/27 competitors. The performance of the Slovak wrestling hopefuls was concluded by Jozef Jaloviar, in the 97 kg weight category, with a match against a Chinese wrestler 3:0, finishing 27th/31 competitors.
