Košice, Skopje (May 11-12, 2018) The UWW tournament called "Macedonian Pearl" was held again this year in Skopje, Macedonia, where representatives of our club also traveled, under the guidance of coach M. Jaroš. As in previous years, the tournament does not have a large number of participants. After the European Championships, which were held last week, there are few tournaments, so the boys went to faraway Macedonia to compete in such a smaller tournament. J. Sýkora (74kg), M. Sciranka (86kg), and M. Sýkora (125kg) traveled. mb
Jakub SÝKORA in the 74kg weight class had the most matches, with 4 matches, 2 of which were victories and 2 losses. With six competitors, the competition was a group system, where Jakub won one match and lost one, thus advancing to the semifinals. There he managed to win again, and in the final, a feared opponent from the group awaited him. As in the group, he also lost in the final 1:11 to a Bulgarian wrestler and took 2nd place.
In the 86kg weight category, Martin SCIRANKA unfortunately had only one opponent, a representative of Bulgaria. However, he was beyond his strength, and after a 0:4 loss, he goes home with silver.
In the heaviest weight category of 125kg, Matúš SÝKORA competed. In a competition of 3 wrestlers, he was unable to win. After two losses, he goes home with third place, and as we can see in the photo below, there is still a visible weight difference with which it is difficult to wrestle among the "heavyweights."
