Košice (April 8, 2013) - The wrestlers of our Wrestling Club (ZK) Košice 1904 have started the new season of the Slovak Senior League (SLS) in freestyle on the right foot! In the first round of the competition on home mats on Saturday, April 6, they fought for a victory over one of the favorites, Vihorlat Snina, and although they subsequently lost to another rival, Dunajplavba Bratislava, they kept their hopes alive for the fight for the overall top positions. Before the second round, which is scheduled for June 6 in Snina, they share the current first place with both favorites.
The victory over Snina, strengthened again by Ukrainians, particularly pleased the fans of our ZK Košice 1904. And, of course, our boys' coach, Juraj Dancák Sr.: "However, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, a victory over the strong Snina with four Ukrainians, and on the other hand, a defeat against Bratislava. If someone had told me that we could win against Vihorlat, I would have considered it at least audacious. However, reality showed that under certain favorable circumstances, we can defeat them. Especially Marián Hutňan's sensational victory over Docenko in the 120 kg category was a nice culmination of the team's fighting performance. The draw unfortunately gave us Dunajplavba right in the next round, and to be honest, we didn't handle that match well. Also as a result of fatigue from the previous match and relief after the victorious match, we lost this match. I'm just sorry that in the confrontation with the national team members, we were on the shorter end of the stick. The mutual defeats of the strongest teams keep us in the game for the title and it will still be interesting. I would like to express my thanks to the entire team for the fighting performance they gave. It is currently premature to evaluate the performances of individuals. Everyone deserves praise. We have a lot of training work ahead of us and we want to fight for the title."
At the beginning of the competition day, the spectators and competitors witnessed a nice event. The management of our club, as well as the coaches and the present referees, congratulated Marcel Miček, the coach of ZK Košice 1904 and its secretary, on a significant jubilee - his seventieth birthday. We join the well-wishers and wish him much health and optimism!
