They Wrote About Us - He Has His Head in Sorrow, But Also Promising Material

01. 01. 2020

On the wrestling mats, everything remained the same after the second (final) round of the Slovak Team League in Snina. The order on the podium is the same as it was crystallized at the opening tournament in Bratislava - Dunajplavba Bratislava remained on the pedestal, the wrestlers of Vihorlat Snina stepped onto the silver step, and the freestyle wrestlers of ZK Košice 1904 had to settle for bronze.

KOŠICE. It was a disappointment for the coach of the Košice wrestlers, Juraj Dancák.
"I had my head in sorrow about it and practically didn't sleep at all on the night from Saturday to Sunday because I was thinking about everything. The problem with illness that we had before the tournament in Snina got even worse. I had to leave out the boys who were not in good health, because it could have an impact on their health in the future, so neither Kačeňák nor Pavlík, nor the injured Kmeč, wrestled in Snina due to illness. However, we put the team together and I think that despite these absences, we could have fought for second, and even first place. Although in wrestling you can always blame the bad luck of the draw, that also contributed a bit to our placement at the final league tournament. But some boys did not meet my expectations, for example, Pástor in the 55 kg category, who lost a match in the final in which he was clearly winning. However, he underestimated the end and was pinned twenty seconds before the end. Dano Pálinkás was also a disappointment for me, and he admitted his mistake. I have already spoken to him about it and emphasized that he should always go into it like a professional. But mistakes happen and I don't just blame them for our failure in the league, I take it upon myself as well. I can't influence injuries or illnesses, but I probably made a mistake somewhere in the preparation."

RETREAT FROM POSITIONS

After the tournament in Bratislava, the Košice team was eight points behind Dunajplavba and five behind Snina; in the final accounting after the final tournament in Snina, this difference deepened to 25 and 19 points, respectively.
"But it could have been completely different, because practically one match could have decided the final order," says the new coach of the Košice A-team, Juraj Dancák.
"However, we have clearly retreated from our positions in the league. Three weeks before, we won the national championships and the boys were probably convinced that nothing could happen, that we would manage in Snina as well. It's not that we underestimated the preparation, but there was complacency in the subconscious and we didn't handle the final round of the league physically. We didn't even win a single weight class. True, we had bad luck with the draw in some places and in some weight classes the boys were not yet fully healthy. Although Majo Hutňan had more or less recovered from his injury, he was no match for Vojčák, and similarly, my son in the 84 kg (in the 96 kg - correction www.zapasenie-kosice.sk) lost to Jaloviar. But at least the juniors stepped up, although Mišo Bodnár lost in the final to Dub, because his opponents have already 'scouted' him a bit and know how to handle him. I can also be satisfied with Berdych (Berdis - correction www.zapasenie-kosice.sk), who was also out for a week due to illness. We have a lot of young boys in the club, and that is promising material. It's a good group, as a collective they are definitely worth it; after all, fourteen boys came to Snina, even though only ten could wrestle, to cheer them on."

SATISFIED WITH THREE TITLES

Despite the failure in the season finale, it was not a bad year for the Košice colors.
"From the point of view of individual goals, we can be satisfied with those three titles at the national championships. And with the fact that we won the team competition there. But the situation from this year's league competition must not be repeated. Why it was so, we have to analyze that, discuss it with the boys. And who knows, maybe we need to think more about whether we should strengthen ourselves in some weight classes if we want to succeed in the league."
