KOŠICE. Half of the young competitors of ZK 1904 Košice have already been through it; cadets Matej Gazda and Gabriel Tysz experienced their baptism by fire at the World Championships in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
Both freestyle wrestlers had a similar fate, as they said goodbye to the top competition of the season after their first match.
Matej Gazda, in the 76 kg weight category, ran into a home wrestler, Mahamadzay Mukhutov, in the round of sixteen, against whom he did not score a single point, losing both periods 0:6, and watched the rest of the competition only from the stands.
Gabriel Tysz did not make a splash in the 85 kg category either, when he was "tamed" on the mat in the round of eight by Kyrgyz Maksat Sagyrtayev, who pinned him...
They will expect more in a year
Little experience, or little luck with the draw? We ask the youth coach of ZK 1904 Košice, Juraj Dancák, because both cadets passed through his hands in their pupil age.
"At the World Championships, you can no longer talk about needing a little more luck with the draw, because the competition there is much stronger than at the European Championships. There, a wrestler can still catch a relatively weaker opponent, but at the World Championships, not anymore; that's a slightly different level. I think our boys rather paid the rookie price at such an event. They had already achieved good results at the European Championships in Poland, by qualifying for the World Championships with a placement in the top ten. For them, it was their first appearance in a competition of this nature in their lives. They are still only in the learning phase and will have the opportunity in the cadet category next year as well. Naturally, we will expect better results from them. Now it was just the start of a certain path that we would like to take. Of this pair, Gabi Tysz seems more promising to me, but he is at the weight limit between 85 kg and 100 kg. It is clear that a better placement can be achieved in a higher weight category, where there is a little less competition, but Gabi is somewhere in between in terms of weight, around ninety kilos, so in order for him to compete in the 100 kg category, we need to change the training system so that he gains more muscle mass. Not fat, pure muscle mass," says the former federal representative.
