Košice, Szombathely - HUN (28.3. - 02.04.2017) The Slovak national team traveled to the European championships with seven freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers. It was expected that the representatives from Russia, competing for Slovakia, would help us achieve better results, but they also lack experience at such top events. Overall, we recorded "only" one 5th place, which was unexpectedly achieved by Greco-Roman wrestler T. Soós in the heavyweight freestyle category thanks to a favorable draw. Three top-ten finishes belonged to two classic-style wrestlers and our home wrestler Gabriel Tysz in the 97 kg weight category, who placed 9th overall. In the first round, Gabi defeated a representative from Greece 7:3. In the quarterfinals, he was no match for the German Cudinovica and lost by technical superiority 10:0, and could thus say goodbye to the tournament. We congratulate Gabriel Tysz and believe that his form will be fine-tuned for the upcoming World Championships and the result will be even better.
