Košice, Plzeň (CZE) 11.02.2017, As is traditional, our wrestling club participates in the international tournament in Plzeň, Czech Republic. The delegation was composed of pupil and junior freestyle wrestlers. Coach Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička selected the Závacký brothers, V. Baran, juniors T. Krupjak, H. Al-Kubati, and the eventual winner of the 84 kg weight class, J. Mesiarkin, for the lineup. It was a very high-quality competition with international participation and clubs not only from the Czech and Slovak Republics, but also from Austria, Bulgaria, and Germany.
We bring you a short evaluation from the delegation's coach, M. Jedlička: "The tournament was of a high quality, and a good competition system in groups, where everyone wrestled everyone, and the group winners fought for the top spots, contributed to it. Overall, I am satisfied because I want the boys to wrestle as much as possible, and this system ensured that. In the pupils' category, Jakub Závacký competed in the 54 kg weight class. He had 2 wins and one loss against a physically stronger opponent, but despite that, I am satisfied with the bronze medal. Viliam Baran (69 kg) did not win the fight for third place according to his expectations, but 2 wins and 2 losses and an overall fourth place I also evaluate positively. In the junior category, the older of the Závacký brothers wrestled. Matej had two wins and two losses on his account and also showed his fighting spirit, even though two Germans in the group were beyond his strength. In the most populated junior weight class of 84 kg, our three competitors competed. The least successful was Hany Al-Kubati, who needs to attend more such tournaments to gain experience and sufficient confidence. Club colleague Tomáš Krupjak had to withdraw from a well-started tournament after two wins due to a knee injury. And nothing and no one stood in the way of the winner of the weight class, Jožko Mesiarkin, to the gold medal. I was only confirmed that we need exactly such competitions if we want to progress and move somewhere. I want to congratulate the boys, and as a thank you, we took a trip to the Prague water park on Sunday. Such regeneration after a tough tournament is also welcome." ah
