Košice Sports Personality 2014, Wrestling Was Not Missing

| Košice (20.2.2015) The ŠOK project has completed its 6th year. In the pleasant premises of the Social Pavilion, awards were presented to the laureates of the Košice Sports Personality 2014 poll in five categories. In the ŠOK and Hope category, the Košice Sports Academy recognizes exceptional sports performances and results achieved in the given year in youth and junior categories. Jakub Sýkora rightfully received this award. His coach, Mgr. Juraj Dancák, accepted the statuette. Also present were the club president Ján Tokár Jr., sports director Jozef Lohyňa, chairman of the Olympic Club Miroslav Luberda, and assistant coach Štefan Csorba. Jakub could not attend this gala evening due to wrestling commitments. He currently has a tournament in Bialogard, Poland behind him and is continuing with a national team training camp in Walcz. | Košice (14.02.2015) On our home turf, we proved once again that we are among the top junior freestyle wrestlers in Slovakia. Every year we witness weaker and weaker competition, and this time the flu season was added to it. Only 54 competitors from Slovak clubs listened to the Slovak anthem at the opening. Out of the nine Košice wrestlers, under the guidance of coach Mgr. Juraj Dancák, six boys took home a medal, and four of them were gold! Jakub Sýkora, Róbert Szatmári, Ľuboš Kundrát, and Gabriel Tysz. The fact that we are among the Slovak elite is confirmed by the fact that we also won the team evaluation in the junior freestyle category.

| Košice, Wolfurt AUT(06.02.2015) Wolfurt, Austria welcomed more than 100 juniors and almost 120 cadettes and junior women from POL, FRA, HUN, SRB, CZE, MGL, GBR, SUI and several local Austrian clubs. The wrestlers from Košice had a 100% success rate, as coach Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička traveled to the tournament with two juniors, both of whom stood on the podium. Gabriel Tysz won the gold trophy and Jakub Sýkora the bronze. The women's national team was led by coach M. Timko. Cadette Nina Kollárová was just one step away from winning a bronze medal, but after losing to a representative from Poland, she had to settle for a final fifth place. Her older sister Dominika Kollárová's start at this event was not successful at all, as she did not manage to win a single match among the junior women.

| Košice, Šamorín (31.1.2015) The Slovak Championships in Greco-Roman style were a "warm-up round" for our freestyle wrestlers before the Junior Slovak Freestyle Championships, which will be held on 15.2.2015 in Košice. With an eight-member team of boys, coach Mgr. Juraj Dancák Sr. won first place in the team evaluation. The Sýkora brothers were largely responsible for securing the victory. It was a successful Saturday especially for Jakub, who won the title of Slovak Champion, and for Matúš, who was pleased with second place.

| Košice, Bratislava (31.1.2015) The last weekend of January saw the traditional International Youth Tournament in Bratislava. A seven-member team of boys, led by coach Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička, traveled to the competition. Bratislava was visited by 125 young people from 15 clubs, among which the ZK Košice 1904 club was not missing. Among the most successful Košice wrestlers were Filip Titka in the 40kg weight category and the older of the Závacký brothers, Matej, in the 66kg weight category, who stood on the winner's podium. Jakub Závacký was also close to winning gold, but in the final, he was no match for Kurthy (ZK Kolárovo). The success of the Závacký brothers was also watched in Bratislava by their father, who actively participates in trips to domestic and foreign tournaments. | Košice, Colorado Springs - USA (29-31.1.2015) The annual UWW senior tournament in honor of Dave Schultz, the "Dave Schultz Memorial International," was held in the American state of Colorado. Countries such as Japan, Bulgaria, Moldova, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ecuador, India, Israel, Argentina, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Mongolia, Mexico, Canada, and several American states were present. Our Košice representative, Michael Bodnár, in the 86 kg weight category, had the honor of competing at this prestigious tournament. The opening match ended in a 3:1 victory for the Slovak over the American R. Newman. In the second round, M.Bodnár was no match for R.Hamlin (USA). After the loss, he could have fought for bronze, but Canadian representative J. Phulka stood in his way, to whom he lost 5:11, thus ending his participation on the American mats.

| Košice (20.-24.1.2015) The Košice mats welcomed Polish friends, opponents, but this time sparring partners. A group of pupils from coach Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička gathered for this short, but technically and physically excellent camp. He was now in the role of coordinator. He passed on his coaching experience to the younger Martin Sciranka, who led the training sessions together with Polish colleague Sebastian Pawlak. M. Jedlička evaluated the training camp very positively and added that we are cordially invited to Kraśnik for a similar camp. We believe that this cooperation will last as long as possible.
UWW Approves Significant Changes for Wrestling

| Lausanne, Switzerland (16.01.2015) - After more than four decades without significant changes to the appearance of wrestlers and wrestling, United World Wrestling announced on Thursday that it will make fundamental changes. The traditional wrestling mats, colored yellow and red, which were first adopted for the 1972 Munich Games, will be replaced by dark blue and orange. The colors were chosen as part of a larger effort to improve television viewership. Wrestling singlets, not yet finalized in design, will come in various colors and be adapted to appeal to a younger audience. Referees, who once wore a suit and tie, will now have short-sleeved shirts and trousers. "We want to take steps to ensure that wrestling is attractive to spectators," said United World Wrestling President Nenad Lalovic. "The final designs, uniform for all three wrestling styles, are under development and will be approved during this year.

| Košice (06.12.2014) Coaches, parents, and children came to Košice to celebrate St. Nicholas Saturday with sports. In age categories from birth years 2009 to 2001, almost one hundred wrestlers from four countries fought and gained experience: Hidásnémethy from Hungary, Rzeszów from Poland, and a sports school from Lviv, Ukraine. From Slovakia, both Snina clubs Vihorlat and Slávia, Lokomotíva Rimavská Sobota, JUNO Sport Stará Ľubovňa, Baník Prievidza, and Mladosť Prievidza were present. The organizing club ZK Košice 1904 fielded a strong team of children under the guidance of coaches Mgr. Matej Gardoš and Bc. Martin Sciranka, and the group of Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička with his assistants Ľuboš Hriňák and Peter Hrinko.

| Košice, Corsier-sur-Vevey – SUI (November 19, 2014) The International Wrestling Federation (UWW) has adopted another important measure to better follow our sport. After the changes made last year, the members of the UWW executive committee met last week in Moscow to approve a new age category, U-23. This decision should help keep the sport of wrestling under the five rings and simplify the transition from the junior category (up to 20 years) to the senior category. With this decision, the UWW has joined other international sports federations that have already adopted this decision long ago, such as judokas or canoeists.

| Košice (November 15, 2014) On this day, juniors competed on home mats at the 17th annual international tournament for the Cup of Olympic Hopes in freestyle wrestling. Strong competition from seven countries arrived in Košice: Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Lithuania. The Slovak wrestlers were probably most closely watched by the junior national team coach, Mgr. Miroslav Jedlička, from whom he will select next year's representatives. The tournament was also attended by the honorary international referee and FILA delegate, member of ZK Eugen Wágner. The chairman of the Košice Olympic Club, Miroslav Luberda, also came to support the boys. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, our long-time former coach of TJ Lokomotíva Košice, Mgr. Gabriel Juhás, received a plaque at the tournament.

| Prievidza (November 8, 2014) In Prievidza, before the championship, the presidium of the SZZ met. One of the items on the agenda was the dismissal of the coach of the senior freestyle national team, Mgr. P. Hirjak, as the Slovak Wrestling Federation expressed dissatisfaction with his work to date, and a new men's coach is to be appointed by the end of 2014. Who will take charge of the senior wrestlers is not yet known.
